Magdalena R. McQuilla
Associate
Magdalena R. McQuilla is an associate attorney with the firm. Her practice focuses on civil litigation and small business counsel, and she is fluent in Spanish. A Santa Rosa native, she grew up in the Roseland neighborhood and attended Elsie Allen and Summerfield Waldorf High Schools.
Magdalena’s small and medium sized business practice focuses on helping clients navigate the complexities of business formation and management, including advice on labor law compliance and Contractors State License Board regulations. She also represents clients, as both plaintiffs and defendants, in a wide variety of litigation matters, such as public entity liability, personal injury, property disputes, business disputes, and elder abuse.
After earning an undergraduate degree from the New College of California, Magdalena went on to graduate summa cum laude from the University of San Francisco School of Law. During law school she was Co-President of the school’s American Constitution Society chapter, active in the La Raza (now Latinx) Law Students Association, and a member of Law Review. Her student research article, Down by Law: Police Officers as Gang Sociology Experts was published by the Criminal Law Bulletin, a Thomson/Reuters publication (52 No. 4 Crim. Law Bulletin ART 7 (Summer 2016)). During law school, Magdalena externed with the Honorable Judge William H. Alsup of the Northern District of California, and interned with California Rural Legal Assistance and the Sonoma County Public Defender’s Office. During her internship at the Public Defender’s office, research she performed for a motion in limine regarding expert testimony helped lead to a published decision, People v. Sotelo-Urena (2016) 4 Cal.App.5th 732.
Magdalena lives in southwest Santa Rosa with her family. She serves on the pipeline committee for the Sonoma County Bar Association’s Diversity and Inclusion section, and on the Board of Directors for Sonoma County Mothers of Multiples. In her free time, she enjoys socializing with family and friends in Sonoma County’s beautiful open spaces and patronizing the many wonderful food and drink establishments in the region.
